FAQ

GIF & Image Paste — common questions

What is GIF & Image Paste?

It is a Windows desktop app that stores GIFs and images in a local library. You can add items from the clipboard, files, URLs, or drag-and-drop, then copy them to the clipboard or drag them into other apps (Discord, Slack, browsers, etc.).

Is the app free?

Yes. The app is free to download and use. Optional support for development is available via Buy Me a Coffee; it is not required.

Where do I download it?

From GitHub Releases. Choose the latest portable .exe for Windows.

Does it need an internet connection?

Not for normal library use. The app works offline for items already saved. Network access may occur when you add an image from a URL, or when you open external links (project site, support, etc.).

Where is my library stored?

On your PC, in the app’s Electron user data area (local disk only). Your media is not uploaded to our servers by default. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Windows SmartScreen warns about the app. Is it safe?

Many independent apps are not code-signed, so Windows may show a warning. You can compare checksums or review the open-source repository. If you choose to run the app, use More infoRun anyway at your own discretion.

Which file formats are supported?

Common raster formats including PNG, JPEG, GIF (including animated GIF where applicable), WebP, and BMP, as documented on the home page.

How do I paste into another app?

Click an item in the library to copy it to the clipboard, then use Ctrl+V in the target app. Some apps also accept dragging the thumbnail directly into a text field or attachment area.

Can I organize items?

Yes. You can use favorites, custom tabs, sorting options, and export features described on the home page.

How do I report a bug or request a feature?

Open an issue on GitHub Issues. Include your Windows version, app version, and steps to reproduce.

Will you add macOS or Linux support?

The current release targets Windows. Cross-platform support depends on maintainer time and demand; watch the GitHub repository for updates.

Does the site use advertising?

Advertising may be introduced in the future using Google AdSense. As of May 2026, the public pages on this site do not load third-party ad scripts; see the Privacy Policy for the current description.

Why does my pasted image look different in some apps?

Some applications convert clipboard images to a different format internally, or scale images for performance. If quality matters, test paste into a neutral editor (for example Paint) to compare. Also verify you copied the intended item from the library.

Can I use this at work?

That depends on your employer’s policies. The app stores assets locally, but you are still responsible for copyright and acceptable use of media you collect and paste. If your organization restricts unsigned software, obtain approval before running the portable executable.

How should I back up my library?

Use the export features periodically and store the output in at least two locations (for example an external drive and a cloud-synced folder). See the Guides section on backups for a practical workflow.

Does the app upload my GIFs to the internet?

Not for normal local library storage. Network use happens when you explicitly use URL import or open external links. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

What is the relationship between this site and GitHub?

This site is hosted on GitHub Pages and links to the canonical repository and releases. Downloads should always come from the official GitHub Releases page linked here to reduce supply-chain risk.

How do I uninstall or remove the app?

Because the build is portable, you can stop running it and delete the executable. Library data is stored separately in your user profile (Electron user data). If you want to remove stored data, delete the app’s user data folder after backing up anything you need.

Where can I read longer workflow documentation?

Use the Guides page for step-by-step setup, chat workflows, backups, and troubleshooting patterns.
